Brecon is the Cathedral of the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon. It is the major town in the Brecon Beacons National Park, with a population of 8,000. The Cathedral is sited on a hill to the north westof the town centre, above the River Honddu and near the remains of Brecon Castle. It was founded in 1093 as a Priory by a cell of Benedictine monks from Battle Abbey. Possibly it was formerly a Celtic site of worship.
